Fitter Fabricator Apprenticeship
We have a vacancy for the position of Apprentice Fitter Fabricator within our workshops in Thurso. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and motivated persons who live within daily commuting distance.
Calder Engineering Ltd have been providing engineering services for 30 years. We specialise in high quality fabrication, coded welding and machining. We work within the oil and gas, nuclear and marine renewables markets. Our skills, competence and innovative thinking has earned us a reputation for producing high quality precision work. You can expect very few days to be the same with the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects both at our works and out on clients sites. Within the 4 year apprenticeship you will enjoy a variety of large and small fabrication projects, machining, welding, maintenance and installation works.
The apprenticeship is for a duration of 4 years. There is no guarantee of employment after successful completion, but we think of apprentices as an investment and in most instances we are able to offer a trade position.
We’re a small but dedicated team and likewise we expect our apprentices to be motivated, pay attention to detail, welcome guidance and instruction, and have excellent communication skills and drive to produce the best results they possibly can.
Minimum Requirement: the ideal candidate will hold a minimum of 3 National 4 qualifications. Preferably in Maths, Science, Graphics or English.
The short listed candidates will be invited to interview and expected to carry out a small practical project under workshop conditions.

We currently have a full time vacancy for an experienced Mechanical Fitter/Fabricator based at our workshops in Thurso. The position is for a permanent member of our team and offers the successful candidate a diverse range of work covering: all aspects of fabrication, fitting, tack-up and welding, machining, installation, maintenance, testing.
The post is based at our Thurso workshops but on occasions projects will take you out of the workshops to carry out operations at various clients’ sites.
The successful candidate must be conscientious and precise in their work and have the ability to be a team player as well as being able to work competently on their own initiative. Flexibility is required as on occasion overtime working may be required a short notice.
Applications are invited from candidates who have served a recognised Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 3 years post apprenticeship experience is preferred.
Hourly rate (based on an annual salary): circa £32K. Overtime working paid at enhanced rates.
Annual Leave: 30 days
